Last week “The Lazy Environmentalist” took home “best reality show” honors at the 20th annual Environmental Media Association awards ceremony, which honors film and television productions and individuals that increase public awareness of environmental issues and inspire personal action. We beat out Bravo’s “Top Design” and Discovery Channel’s “Whale Wars,” which I was convinced was going to win after watching the show’s super awesome teaser shown before the envelope was opened.

As for The Lazy Environmentalist, to think that what began with one very honest, confessional blog entry less than five years ago has evolved into a national radio show, two books, and an award-winning television show is extremely gratifying, slightly surreal, and personally inspiring.

Needless to say, our production crew and Sundance Channel team are very excited about our award and ready once again to try to create something really special as we prepare to begin filming season 2 this Thursday. We don’t do “doom and gloom” and we don’t do “show and tell.” Instead, we put real-world environmental solutions to the test every week with everyday Americans to see what really works and what even the laziest among us are willing to do.

**Special thanks to Bahar Shahpar who styled me for these awards and had me in a jacket by DDC Lab made of 70% recycled glass. The picture below shows what happens when a flash goes off. I was told more than once that evening that I looked radiant.
