I’ve never understood puzzles—especially those 6,000 piece numbers illustrating a sunset or a galloping horse or a boat adrift on a vast ocean. But children seem to dig them and who am I to dissuade my offspring from activating that part of his brain? (They say puzzles are good for the mind. That’s probably why I don’t like them). Luckily puzzles for the under three set are a different beast all together. Like this Three Chicks puzzle from Imagiplay. The simple, chunky pieces are made from eco-friendly rubberwood, colored with non-toxic paints and fit perfectly into little hands. Best of all, you don’t have to spread them out across your dining room table for months while you try to figure out if the brown pieces are part of a tree trunk or a horse’s tail.

Why get sent to Jail when you can get sent to the Dump? Why earn money, when you can earn carbon credits for clean air? Earth-Opoloy is a green spin on the classic game, where players visit natural locations around the globe and discover ways to protect the earth in the process. The game itself is made from recycled paper printed with soy ink and instead of a hat or a car the player pieces are things found in nature like a lima bean and a crystal. Kind of hokey. Kind of cool. Definitely worth checking out.
