I’m currently in Los Angeles to film my new tv show – The Lazy Environmentalist – for Sundance Channel. One thing I’ll say about television crews is that they definitely are not lazy. Mornings begin early and days go long. On the show we put lazy green solutions to the test with professionals, organizations, companies and individuals from all walks of life. The results are frequently surprising and often in one way or another transformative. We’ve also been walking our own talk by finding lazy solutions for greening our roving set. Crew members have all received FilterForGood reusable water bottles and a cooler of water is on site so the crew can stay conveniently hydrated. Plates and utensils are made of corn-based, biodegradable materials. When and where possible vanpooling is encouraged. Though there are few vegetarians on set, we’ve also been eating healthy during lunch and pretty low on the food chain with lots of vegetable dishes available.

The series will begin airing on Sundance Channel on June 16th at 9pm. I think what differentiates this green television show is that some degree of failure is always a possibility in our segments. We really want to see whether green solutions will realistically work for everyday Americans based on the demands and criteria for success that they outline. If cost-effective environmental solutions are what they want, I have to deliver. If it’s style they want, then style is what I have to find a green way to give them. I’m not going to give away the plots. You’ll have to tune in for that but I’m enjoying filming because I believe we’re making a really entertaining television show that is also environmentally informative.
