The Green For All Revolution

collage.gif

Today's show is incredibly important and inspiring and is all about solutions. To address the challenges of global warming and meet the energy issues of the future, the United States will need hundreds of thousands of “green-collar workers.” Such workers will be needed to install millions of solar panels; weatherize homes and other buildings; manage alternative transportation sources; build and repair efficient automobiles, and even maintain wind-farms. On top of the environmental benefit though, is the added bonus found in creating a strong, green-collar workforce. For tens of thousands of Americans who are falling behind in the global job market, these work opportunities can also create “green pathways out of poverty.”

Today's Featured Radio Guest:

Van Jones - Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center for Human
Rights in Oakland, California. Color of Change is a site changing the color of democracy. Van Jones is also a frequent blogger and speaker before congress on the issue of Green Collar Jobs.

Topics Discussed Today:

Green Worker Cooperatives - Creating green collar jobs and worker ownership in the South Bronx.

Green Collar Vets - Placing returning veterans in profitable green jobs like with companies like American Clay.

Jyl De Haven - Owner of Going Green USA, an organization bringing together skilled workers fresh from the US military with a future in promising green careers.
