Video of Josh as ‘Dad of the Year’ for Polarn O. Pyret
I just came across this video taken when P.O.P. came down to Asheville earlier in the summer to film me and my family. Shep is totally digging the jumper made from recycled materials that I talk about it in the video.

In 2008, I teamed up with Walmart to demonstrate how green choices are becoming more affordable, accessible, and appealing. The more quality green choices are available on the shelves of the stores where we already shop, the more likely we are to make them part of our lives.
My experience tells me that people will go green when the choices are easy, convenient, priced appropriately, and actually work. It’s so important to get this right because when a consumer has a good experience with a green product, he or she is much more likely to want to repeat it.
That kind of momentum accelerates the green economy. As the biggest retailer on the planet, Walmart has a huge opportunity to put this momentum to work toward its own bottom line and toward the planet’s benefit too.
It’s always refreshing when you met celebrities on the rise and get to experience how real and down-to-earth they are. The Lady Antebellum trio are exactly that way. It was really fun to spend some time with them. Like me, they’re also active supporters of Brita’s FilterForGood campaign to reduce bottled waste and have not only taken the message to heart but also to their fans.
As spokesperson for the FilterForGood campaign, I get to meet some pretty cool peeps. Here’s a video from my stay at the Sundance Film Festival this past January. I’m talking with Alexis Henry of the Surfrider Foundation about the organization’s partnership with FilterForGood.

As spokesperson for the FilterForGood campaign, I was asked to hop on stage before Lady Antebellum’s performance at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in Park City to introduce the band (also a partner of FilterForGood). Only thing was nobody had introduced me, so I had to improvise.
One of the little – yet very important – details that those who haven’t ridden a bike since the age of 13 don’t know is that today you have to clip your feet onto the pedals much like clicking into the bindings of a pair of skis. This information came to my attention last year just days before I was to depart on the 5-Day, 300-Mile Brita Climate Ride. Specialized, one of the ride’s sponsors, sent me a bike so I could ride on behalf of of Brita as the spokesperson for FilterForGood.
This video explains the challenges I subsequently faced not only to complete the ride but to do so without falling.
Though I want to preserve and protect nature, I can’t claim to actually enjoy spending nights sleeping in nature. This video attests to it. I was desperately trying to learn how to pitch a tent in advance of last year’s 5-Day, 300-Mile Brita Climate Ride.
Greening a school is a challenging task, but funny enough, it’s rarely the kids that show any trepidation. Once the kids decide that a green school is a smarter way to learn, they dive right in.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go shopping with the pros? Bahar Shahpar knows clothing, how it’s made, and where it comes from. Wendel knows how to dress celebrities, that’s what he does, day in and day out. Here are three very different perspectives on the vintage clothing market, why vintage is a healthier choice for the planet, and why it can be a lazy fashionista’s dream.
In this talk I lay out what it means to be a Lazy Environmentalist, how I first came to become one, and what people can do to take lazy environmental action in their own lives.
The Martinez family is adopting a new slogan, “no cans.” Instead of worrying about recycling all the cans, they’ve come up with a solution that’s more fun: homemade soda. It’s natural, it’s fresh, and you don’t have to run out to the store to reload the supply. When you consider that Americans consumer more than 100 Billion cans every year, this makes a lot of sense for the planet too.
Josh helps this family assess their waste. As you’ll see, they’re a pretty normal family. Even Dad says, “Altogether, not that much more work than we would normally do” and Mom replies, “Why Not?” if greening the family BBQ can be easy and help save money.
This satisfied pet owner says it all, “I’ve never seen her face so white.” And expert pet groomer, Dawn from LA’s Wags 2 Whiskers, sums it up with, “I can run with this.” They both loved Freckles’ coat after using the natural dog shampoo.
Did you ever take a dare to eat dog food when you were a kid? Everyone assumes it’s going to taste terrible. But did we ever ask why? Here’s a quick look at what we’re feeding our loved ones: our pets that is.
Zoe & Zac, Payless’ first sustainable footwear and accessories collection is selling well. Really well. In fact, ceative advisor and Zoe & Zac spokesperson Summer Rayne Oakes acknowledges that the line is selling much faster than they had ever expected. Are consumers digging on the sustainable material use – like organic cotton, hemp, recycled foam? Perhaps they’re loving the shoes’ packaging, which is made from mostly recycled content. Or could it be that folks just want a casual, comfortable shoe, a la sneaker, flat, or platform, to kick around in. Check out the video above, and you decide.
